FAMILY FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES

Family-friendly activities in Fountain Hills

Bringing the family for a visit? Fountain Hills residents say they love raising a family here because of the small community environment and the variety of healthy activities the Town provides. From hiking trails and movies in the park, to inclusive festivals and fun learning opportunities, here are some of the activities locals enjoy doing with their kiddos – and so can you!

Outdoor activities

Hiking Trails

Many of the trails around Fountain Hills are suitable for a family hike. The Overlook Trail and Adero Canyon trails are a few local favorites, and a great way to “wear the kids out.” A complete list of local hiking trails is available here.

(As a reminder, please choose the correct difficulty rating for your kids’ age and fitness level.)

Festivals

If there’s one thing you should know about Fountain Hills, it’s that we LOVE to come together and have a good time. If you’re in town during a festival, bring your family – our events have something for kids of all ages, including food trucks and live music!

St. Patrick’s Day (March). We turn our World-Famous Fountain green twice on March 17, then host an Irish Fountain Fest on the weekend.

Dark Sky Festival (March). The Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association celebrates their Dark Sky Designation each year in March. Kids will love looking through telescopes, touching real meteorites, and learning how light pollution affects wildlife.

Music Fest (April). Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and the whole family. Watch kids – and kids at heart -- dance with abandon on the Fountain Park lawn to musical acts from various genres.

Turkey Trot and 5K Fitness Run (November). Come run our 5K or dress the family in a Thanksgiving-themed costume and participate in our 1-mile fitness walk. (Pre-registration is required.)

Thanksgiving Day Parade (November). Start your Thanksgiving Day off right by watching the only Thanksgiving Day Parade in Arizona live on Avenue of the Fountains! Bring your lawn chair and sit along the parade route so the kiddos can pick up toys and treats thrown by the passing parade entries.

Stroll in the Glow (December). Ring in the holiday season by watching beautiful Avenue of the Fountains transform into a winter wonderland. Thousands of holiday lights, plus photos with Santa and open houses hosted by many Avenue business owners add to the festivities.
